Liters to Gallons
Resin, paint, glaze and finishing products are sold by volume, and the unit depends entirely on where you are buying. This converter handles litres, millilitres, US gallons, UK gallons, US fluid ounces and UK fluid ounces, and it keeps the two gallon systems separate because they differ by about 20 percent.

Nothing entered yet, so the table below uses Litres (l) as an example.
| Unit | Value |
|---|---|
| Millilitres (ml) | 1,000 |
| Litres (l) Starting value | 1 |
| US fluid ounces (fl oz) | 33.814 |
| UK fluid ounces (fl oz) | 35.1951 |
| US pints | 2.1134 |
| UK pints | 1.7598 |
| US gallons | 0.2642 |
| UK gallons | 0.22 |
What this assumes
- A US gallon is about 3.785 litres. A UK gallon is about 4.546 litres, roughly 20 percent larger.
- US fluid ounces and UK fluid ounces are also different, so a recipe written in one does not convert by a simple ratio.
Every figure on this page is worked out from millilitres, and the page states the factor rather than hiding it.
Questions people ask
How many litres are in a US gallon?
One US gallon is about 3.785 litres, and one litre is about 0.264 US gallons. A UK gallon is larger at about 4.546 litres, so always check which gallon a product listing means.
Why are US and UK fluid ounces different?
They were defined from different gallons historically, and the difference survived metrication for everyday use. A US fluid ounce is 29.57 millilitres and a UK fluid ounce is 28.41 millilitres, so a UK fluid ounce is actually slightly smaller even though the UK gallon is larger.
