Privacy Policy

This policy describes what Handcraft actually does with data. It is written to be read rather than to be legally impressive, and it describes the site as it is built rather than as it might be.

The short version

You do not need an account to use anything here. Nothing you type into a calculator is stored on our servers. We count page views in aggregate, without identifying anyone. Accounts exist only for the people who write and administer the site.

What you enter into a tool

Calculator and converter inputs are used to compute the result for that request and are not saved to a database. On many tools the values travel in the page address so that the result can be bookmarked, shared or refreshed, which means they appear in your own browser history and in our server's standard request log in the same way any web address does. Nothing links those values to you, and no table on this site stores them.

The project planner and the profit dashboard keep their working state in your browser's local storage so that a page reload does not lose your list. That data never leaves your device unless you copy it out yourself, and clearing your browser data removes it.

What we record

We record page views and tool usage in aggregate: which page was viewed and when, and when a calculator produced a result. This is used to see which tools are worth improving. The record contains no name, no email address and no IP address, and it cannot be traced back to a person.

Like any web server, ours writes a request log for security and troubleshooting. Those logs are kept for a limited period and are not used to profile visitors.

Cookies

The site sets a small number of strictly necessary cookies: a session cookie so that forms work, and a cookie that remembers your light or dark mode choice. If advertising or analytics are enabled on this deployment, those may set additional cookies, and where required by law you will be asked for consent before they are set. Declining does not limit any tool on the site.

Accounts

Accounts on this site are for editorial and administrative users only. If you have one, we store your name, email address, a hashed password and your role. We do not sell, rent or share that information, and it is used only to operate the site.

Comments and reviews

Where a page accepts a comment or a review, the content you submit is stored together with your account. Submitted content is held for moderation before it appears. Do not include personal information in a comment, because it will be published.

Third parties

If this deployment has advertising or analytics switched on, those services are operated by third parties and their own policies apply to what they collect. The specific services in use on this deployment, if any, are named in the consent banner you are shown. If you see no consent banner, no third-party advertising or analytics scripts are running.

Your choices

You can use every tool on this site with cookies declined. You can clear local storage at any time through your browser settings, which removes anything the planner or dashboard kept. If you have an account and want it removed, use the contact page and we will delete it.

Children

This site is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the change will be reflected here. Because the site is built not to collect personal data in the first place, changes should be rare.
