Definition
Yardage
The length of fabric a project needs, measured along the length of the bolt. A yard is 36 inches and a metre is about 1.09 yards, so a pattern quoting metres and a shop selling yards are not quoting the same quantity.
Yardage depends on the width of the fabric as well as the size of the pieces: 44 inch and 58 inch wide fabric can need very different lengths for the same garment.
