Cut List Optimizer

List the parts you need to cut and the boards you can buy, and this page turns them into a board by board cutting plan: which pieces come off which board, how much of each board is left over, and how many boards to put on the shopping list once saw kerf and waste are allowed for.

Parts to cut

One row per different part. Leave a row empty if you do not need it: empty rows, and rows with no length or no quantity, are ignored rather than treated as an error.

Stock you can buy

The lengths your timber yard or store actually sells. Leave all three blank and the plan uses a default 96 inch board, or 244 cm when you choose centimetres. The longest length you enter is the one the plan packs against.

Units, kerf and waste

Every length on this page is read in the unit you choose.

The width of the cut the blade removes. A table saw blade is about 1/8 inch.

Extra boards for miscuts and defects, added to the number to buy. 0 is fine if you want the bare minimum.

Reset Nothing is stored. The plan is worked out from the numbers on this page.
