Handmade Product Pricing Calculator

Itemise what a piece costs you, put a rate on your own time, and add the fees you actually pay. You get the break-even price, a suggested retail price, what wholesale would do to your profit, and the hourly rate the work really earns. Every step of the arithmetic is shown below the result.

Materials

One row per material. Quantity times unit cost is what the row adds to the cost of the piece. Leave rows you do not need empty: empty rows are ignored, and a row with a quantity but no cost counts as free.

Thread, glue, dye, anything you do not want to list row by row. Typical for a small piece: 0 to 3.

Box, tissue, label, tape. Typical: 0.75 to 2.50.

Only what you absorb yourself. If the buyer pays postage, leave this at 0.

A share of the things that are not per item: electricity, tools wearing out, a market stall fee. Typical: 0 to 1.

Your time

Include the boring parts: setup, winding yarn, cleaning up. Typical: 1 to 3.

What your hour is worth. Start at 15 to 20 and go up as you get faster and better known.

If your hourly rate feels embarrassing, that feeling is the reason this calculator exists. Working for nothing is not a business, and a price that hides your time is a discount you did not choose.

Fees and margin

These are all taken as a share of the selling price, so they sit in the same sum as your margin. That is why the two are separated here from your costs.

The platform cut on the sale price, before payment processing. Typical: 6.5 to 9.5.

Card and wallet processing, charged on the total the buyer pays. Typical: 2.9 to 3.5.

The flat part of a payment fee. Typical: 0.25 to 0.30.

The share of the selling price you keep as profit, after fees and costs. Typical: 40 to 50 for handmade work.

A margin of 45 percent with fees of 12.5 percent means 57.5 percent of the price is spoken for before any cost is paid. That is normal. The arithmetic below shows exactly what it does to the price.
