Dye lot

The batch a skein of yarn was dyed in, printed as a number or code on the label. Yarn from two different dye lots can differ visibly even when both are labelled the same colour, because dyebaths vary slightly between batches.

For a large project, buy all the yarn at once from one dye lot. If you must mix lots, alternate skeins every few rows so any difference reads as texture rather than as a band.
