Definition
Exothermic
Releasing heat as it reacts. Curing epoxy resin is exothermic, and the heat builds faster in a larger volume because there is less surface area to dissipate it.
This is why most products publish a maximum pour depth per layer: exceeding it can cause the resin to overheat, crack, smoke or cure unevenly. Pour in layers within the limit the manufacturer states for your product, and mix no more than you can pour in one working session.
Tools that use this term
Resin Calculator
Work out the millilitres and grams of mixed resin a mould needs, and split it into part A and part B at your ratio.
Table Resin Calculator
Work out the resin for a table top or a river table pour: the area, the volume per coat, the number of coats and the total including a dam allowance.
Epoxy Volume Calculator
Compare what a mould or cavity holds against the pour you are planning, and see the shortfall or the surplus before you mix.
