Bracelet Size Calculator

Turn a wrist measurement into a bracelet length, with the allowance for the clasp type and the bead size you are using.

A bracelet that measures exactly the wrist will not fasten comfortably, and one that is a half inch too long will slide over the hand. This calculator takes the wrist measurement you actually took, adds the allowance for the clasp you are using and the bead size you are stringing, and returns the finished length to build to along with the bead count and the standard size bands.

Frequently asked questions

How much longer should a bracelet be than the wrist?
Between half an inch and one inch for most clasps, and the exact figure depends on the clasp and the beads. A lobster claw with 8 millimetre beads on a 6.5 inch wrist lands near 7.6 inches, while the same wrist with a hook clasp and seed beads lands near 7.2 inches. A stretch bracelet is the exception and is usually cut a quarter inch shorter than the wrist.
What size bracelet fits a 7 inch wrist?
About 7.5 to 8 inches depending on the clasp and the bead size, which makes the wearer a large in most retail sizing. Retail sizes describe the bracelet rather than the wrist, so a customer who wears an 8 inch bracelet usually has a wrist of 7 to 7.5 inches. If you are selling, publish the finished bracelet length rather than the size name.
Do large beads need a longer bracelet?
Slightly. A strand of 10 millimetre beads forms a wider arc than a fine chain, so it sits further off the wrist and can feel tight at the same length. The allowance is small, around a quarter of an inch over a bead bracelet, but it is the difference between a bracelet that drapes and one that digs in.
How should I measure the wrist?
Wrap a strip of paper or a soft measuring tape snugly around the wrist bone, mark where it meets, and measure that length. Do not measure over a sleeve and do not leave slack, because the allowance above is already built in. Measure at the end of the day when the wrist is at its largest, and if the figure falls between two marks, round up.
